Grateful From The Depths of Me

Tonight when I tucked her in, I lingered a little longer as I kissed her hair. Her It’s-been-a-little-too-long-between-perms, smells-like-hair-moisturizer nappy head. And I took the time to find the exact spot on her nose bridge that I have quickly kissed so many times.

Today was the 8 year anniversary of the day that began the scariest time of our lives. My husband’s tearful voice did not tell me what was wrong until I got home. But I knew it was something very, very bad. The phone call from the adoption agency had come. We hadn’t expected to hear anything from them. They informed us that we were going to have to give our precious daughter back. They said they had already explored every possible legal option, and there was no hope.

8 years later, it haunts me. One day I will be brave and I will speak of it. Not today.

I cannot fathom my life without her.

She is here

with

me,

I tucked her in tonight.

Yes, I lingered a little longer on her perfectly curly head and kissed her kissing spot again, for the 2,920th night since that day. And not one has gone by without a tremendous feeling of gratefulness that God chose for her to be here with me.

Better Than Fireworks!!!

Precious beyond words

Our dear friends, David and Julie, were finally able to bring their precious daughters home from Haiti, just last night!!! Two years of prayers, hopes, tears and dreams have finally paid off!

Sisters Forever, meeting for the first time...

Mom and Quetelene (below)

David and Julie will do great and will embrace all of the love, blessings and any challenges their newly formed family will bring.

They were able to see their biological baby brother Ben at the airport too (adopted by our friends Sean and Jamie a couple months ago).

Amy was every bit the warm, loving and welcoming big sister we knew she'd be. She is going to be a blessing to her "little" sisters, even though Yolanta is already bigger than she is and Quetelene isn't far behind. Amy we are so proud of you!

Congratulations to the Family Of Five!!!!

Adoption is a beautiful and miraculous thing...

A Dream Come True

I never dreamt
that tender blosoms
would be brown
Or precious angels
could come down
to live in the garden
of my giving heart
But here you are
brown angel

~Walter Dean Meyers

Yesterday was my daughter's birthday. My Daughter. Ahhh, those sweet words.

I think of the first moment I laid eyes on her,

Her newborn, yet wise-old-woman eyes...

Her first birthday...

Sitting on a beach in Hawaii with a floppy hat...

The "booty bounce" way she got from one place to the next...

Days in the sun swimming and sunning and playing...

Of loving and being deeply loved...

I can't believe it has been seven years!

I have a daughter. She is my constant companion, my cheerleader, mini-mama to my baby. She is still my baby girl, yet she is getting so grown up. I prayed specifically -- for dimples, for sweetness and spunk, and so much more -- and God came through abundantly over anything I could ask or think...

She is a Dream Come True.

Happy 7th Birthday Dear, Sweet, Precious Daughter

Prayer

Shout my name to the angels
Sing my song to the skies
Anoint my ears with wisdom
Let beauty fill my eyes

For I am dark and precious
And have such gifts to give
Sweet joy, sweet love,
Sweet laughter
Sweet wondrous life to live
